If an 18 year old, no longer in public school but in college, wishes to talk to a mandated reporter about being abused is it that reporters job to report this case against said persons wishes? And if so why?

California law requires that certain persons have an obligation to disclose the commission of a crime if it is disclosed to that person. A person may be an adult, but the statute of limitation on the crime committed may still allow the state to prosecute the offender. You can refrain from discussing the criminal activity with a reporter if you do not want the issue disclosed. However, the public is served by requiring the prosecution of these kinds of crimes that otherwise can be hidden from detection. |
