Legal Question

My 20yo friend received a charge for possession of marijuana, paraphernilia, and a concealed weapon (brass knuckles) and has court soon. he has a clean record up til now, what could his possible punishment be and what can he do to try and lessen the charges? Could he try to have the concealed weapon charge dropped so he can take diversion for the marijuana charges?
