Legal Question

I own an apartment building with 4 units in Addison, IL. I do not live in the building, but do reside in Addison. Am I liable for a citation if someone unknown (probably a tenant) proped open the front door with an unknown object? I recevied a citation from the building inspector but don't feel I should be liable since I cannot control the actions of someone else.
