NJ law provides that, the officers of this State authorized to take acknowledgments or proofs in this State, or in any other United States or foreign jurisdiction, are: an attorney-at-law; a notary public; a county clerk or deputy county clerk; a register of deeds and mortgages or a deputy register; a surrogate or deputy surrogate. N.J.S.A. 46:14-6.1. I believe the lawyer's authority continues so long as the individual is an attorney in good standing in the State.
