Can a car finance company ask for medical records or proof that you were off work due to medical condition?

If you are asking them for any accomodation in their payment, then yes, they can ask for whatever they want. If you abide by the terms of your loan - i.e., make the payments as required and on-time, then they cannot ask for that sort of confidential information. However, if you are asking them to waive any part of the original loan contract, then you are at their mercy.
