Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I resigned from my job on August 19, 2011 under an investigation status for breaking company policy and procedure. I am now hearing rumors that that investigation is still going on, can this be true? Also what is my old employer legally allowed to tell future employers since I am applying for jobs, I did resign not get fired.

You resigned, and are thus disqualified from unemployment benefits. The employer can tell anyone, anything they like, as long as it is true. Unless you committed a crime, there is no reason to fear the investigation. It will be completed to learn how to improve company policy or supervision or loss prevention.
