My letter signed on behalf of me.

I live & work in a hotel. A receceptionist signed for a letter that came registered mail for me. It went missing, - presumed stolen. It contained £600 of vouchers. Can you tell me if you think the hotel is legally responsible for the letter and its contents & should refund me, or am i unable to claim anything off them? Thank you.
