There may not be any legal problem per se; however, the hotel staff as also the local police may create problem for you.

The possibility of inovking SIT Act may not be ruled out.

Its not at all a big problem to stay in a hotel or in any lodge provided you carry your identity cards and any such document which proves you have stayed in the hotel to attend some interview.
