Legal Question in Consumer Law in Indonesia

Hai, couple days ago i signup for fitness centre, and in one of contract mentioned that i need to pay penalty fee if i quit before contract. is there anything i can do so i dont have to pay for penalty fee? is this case can turn into crime, can this matter put me in jail ?

Hi,

Don't worry, your case is very much a civil one. If you don't pay the penalty fee, you will only be defaulting or performing a breach of contract. You cannot go to jail for this.

However, the fitness centre will still have a case against you in civil court.
