Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in India

This is regarding an ICICI Credit card of my Mother in Law. I have not been in touch with her for about 1year. However, her Credit card has an outstanding amount of 2.5Lakhs. I had been paying the minimum as I wanted to avoid embarrassment of people coming to my door to ask for money. Four months back I had asked the bank to close this account & give me a settlement amount as I wanted to close this once for all nor do I want any action against my Mother in Law. Now the bank has sent a notice from Lok Adalat at my residence as that was the address provided on her card.

What should I do? I want to settle & I cannot track her, neither do I want her to get in trouble.

I do not want to pay the entire amount as it is a big amount & I cannot afford to pay it for no fault of mine. Do I have to go to the Lok Adalat. Can this be avoided.

Dear Sir / Madam,

You should work out a settlement plan with the Bank and accordingly reply to the legal notice sent to you through the Lok Adalat.
