Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ethiopia

Hello,

I'm from France and I just learned that my brother is in prison in Ethiopia, arrested at the airport while he was coming back to France, maybe for drug according to the ambassy. What can I do for him and what is going to happen to him.

Thanks

Dear Sir,

In my opinion, the first thing to do is to send an attorney to him. This ensures that he will at least know his rights and will be advised to refrain to take action which will prejudice the chance of success at getting him free.

Next to this, the chance will not be missed for a lawyer to appear with him at court, on your brother's first appearance, to try to get him out on bail. It has to be admitted that there is only a small chance of getting him out on bail, but it is worth trying. A lawyer would certainly also help in the later stages of the case, if it proceeds.

If you are correct at your guess of the reason for his arrest, the case is grave; especially if a case for trafficking could be latched on to him. In recent cases, the courts have given sentences of up to 7 years in prison.

If you would like mine and my associates' help in effecting the above, please feel free to contact me on [email protected].
