Legal Question in Family Law in India

Is Australian divorce valid in India ? Someone told me that as per Hindu Marriage Act one has to get divorced in India only if married under the same act.

4 years before i got married in India, under Hindu marriage act. Me and my wife came to Australia last year. and we both are permanent resident . We wanted to apply divorce. Can you please help telling me if Divorce taken Under Australian law be valid in india? OR should we go to India and apply for it ?
