Legal Question in Employment Law in India

Hi, I with 4 of my friends was selected in a company, which has said to train us for 6 months but not give us any salary. After that 6 month they will decide whether to finalize us as a permanent employee or throw us away. At the time of selection they told us to go through an agreement of 1 year after the completion of training but on very first day of joining, they put an agreement in front of us mentioning the service agreement of 18 months and made us to sign it. We don�t even dare to ask a question for this activity as they have told us to go through an agreement after the training is over and we�ll be confirmed as employee. After 3 months of free working for them (training was of actually 10-15 days, then they put me on work for their own benefit, without any pay), i got selected in another company, and ,thus, switched from old company, without telling them any reason for that. Now, on the basis of that agreement, they are forcing me to pay 50,000/- as the training, selection and induction expenditures by sending a notice through an advocate to my home. Please note that I was not an employee and no salary was paid to me. I was working for free for them, thinking, my hardship might got me selected as an employee after 6 month.

Please suggest me what should i do. They have challenged me to take civil as well as criminal action against me. Can they file a case against me if i will not answer to their notice to pay the amount? What are chances to my win if they drag me to the court? Can i put these points favoring me in the court to ask for mercy?

Please reply me ASAP.
