Legal Question in Disability Law in Alabama

I have had legal custody of my granddaughter since she was one year old. She will soon be 5. She would like the same last name as my husband and I. Can we legally do this without the parents' permission?

No you can not as you only have custody and are not the parent of the child. The only way you can do this is to adopt the child.
