Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Alabama

Can you file bankruptcy without including your home in the bankruptcy? If so, how does this work?

Well you actually will need a lawyer because the bankruptcy code is difficult to understand. You can keep your house if there is a lien on the house and the equity is less than $10,000. Of course with the economy as it is, it is hard to sell a house for what you think the value is. So it would be important to know what the houses in the area have sold for recently.
