Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Alabama

can they do this

I plan on paying a debt in the future once my finances allow it. I have a collection agency phoning me at work and I have repeatedly asked them not to call there. Someone told me that they are not allowed to do this nor are they allowed to call me more than once a month. What is the truth and what can I do to stop this?

Re: can they do this

Under the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection and Practices Act), if a "debt collector" has knowledge that you are not allowed to receive personal calls at work or if you've told them that they cannot call you there, then they are not allowed to do that. This may or may not be something that is actionable under the law, depending on several factors. Without knowing the specifics of your case, I cannot really tell you whether this amounts to a violation of the law. If you need more specific info, feel free to contact me so I can get a better idea of what has happened so far and do a conflict check.
