Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama

Possible criminal charge

What is theft in 1st degree and penalty for conviction? Warrant issued, no arrest. No idea what this is about. Cannot get anyone to tell me what was supposedly stolen or who made the complaint. Officers spoke with my mother and want me to turn myself in, but I'm afraid they'll put me in lockup. I'm a 19-yr old female. County facilities here are not kind to females, in fact, they are primitive at best. I just started a job three weeks ago and am afraid of losing it. Should I have a lawyer to speak to authorities to find out if this is a valid warrant? Who will help me if I can't pay and if I lose my job?

Re: Possible criminal charge

You should call and see if a bond amount has been set and if so how much the bond is. Then you need to see if you can get a bondsman to cover that amount and what that would cost. Or, see if you have a family member or friend who has property they are willing to post as bond. Then you should go turn yourself in and be ready to post the bond. Afterwards you will find out what the charges arise out of. It very well could be for something like where you have rented to own merchandise and not paid for it as they frequently do file these kind of charges.
