Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

I am divorced and have never missed a CS payment. From time to time, when I had a little extra money, I have helped my ex out by giving her money for kids clothes and stuff above and beyond what was required by law. Sometimes several hundred dollars a month. With the down turn in the economy, no pay raises, and rapidly increasing insurance premiums for my kids insurance plans I don't have the extra money that I used to. My ex says that because I started helping her out with extra money several years ago that now I am obligated to continue doing so indeffinately. Is this true? What would the court say. I have ran the numbers and an increase in CS is not warranted at this time. Any help would be appreciated.

Your ex is wrong. Child support cannot legally be increased without going to court. You can give her as much as you choose above what you are legally required to give, but you are only obligated to give her what your CS order stated. She is just trying to work you. Stand firm.
