Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Alabama

we bought a car off of the internet, the same day we payed the final installment on the vehicle, an hour later the person I bought the car from shows up to my house crying, telling me the car wasn't his to sell, and that he had a lean on it, so instead of me calling the police, they had another vehicle that was in his wife's name, as well as his wife's mother, and so i made them sign a piece of paper stating that they owed me 890.00 dollars, and that I had permission to use the vehicle untill they paid me back, I have all the records of me paying them, and even went to police department and made a report, now they are saying that I will go to jail for auto theft if I don't give them the car back, it's been three months, and they haven't paid me anything, and they keep making threats towards our life, we even had to move because we were afraid, what do we do, can I go to jail for driving this car, and what legal leg do I have with the vehicle I have in my possesion now?

Wow. You really can't make this stuff up. Get your facts straight and get to a lawyer. You can sue them for taking your money for a car that was not theirs to sell in the first place. You are using a car with their permission? What does the paper say? Who owns the car you are now driving? Get into a lawyers office without delay. You have only the right to use the car that the owner of the car gave you.
