Legal Question in Personal Injury in Alabama

leprosy in america

i am a us citizen who has never traveled outside this country. i have been diagnosed with leprosy. the only way i could have contracted this is from some illegal alien who brought it into this country. my dr said i could have been in walmart and this person sneezed and that was all it took.there is no cure. i must suffer the remainder of my life and i can no longer work, yet our gov continues to let them over here to earn a living for their families while mine must suffer. do i have any legal options?

Re: leprosy in america

I'm sorry to hear about your situation with getting infected with this rare disease. If you knew who spread it to you or how you caught it, you might have some litigation options. Unfortunately, in your situation you don't know who to sue or where to file the lawsuit. Also, you aren't able to actually prove it is the result of the government's neglect, since you can't be sure you caught it from an illegal alien. You could just as easily been sneezed on by a U.S. citizen who had traveled to a third-world country and then carried the disease back with them.

Without knowing more about where and how you caught leprosy, my only recommendation is that you file for disability. If your infection has made you unable to work, then you can at least receive compensation from the government through the Social Security disability program. I would recommend that you contact an attorney who handles social security disability claims immediately to get the process started.

Good luck, and I'm sorry that I don't know of any other options for you. At least get the process started for receiving your disability benefits.
