Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Alaska

Im trying to get my vehicle back which is still in my name, we traded vehicles and I mailed him the title but came back to my address as invalid. He stole some items from a local business and a state trooper came to my house in hopes to arrest me after a week after the transaction. I told him during the transaction that if he does anything stupid that I'm taking the truck back, he agreed. I talked to the local police department and told me to get a writ of assistance, but it doesnt apply apparently to a vehicle. What should I do?

It appears that you traded one vehicle for the other one; and there was no agreement that you would reserve a purchase lien on the subject vehicle. The precatory language, that if he were to "do anything stupid" you could take the truck back, is too vague to have any legal effect and, in any event, was not in writing. So he owns the vehicle and you should give him the title if and when he shows up and asks you for it.

Do you have the title for the vehicle you received in the trade?
