Legal Question in Employment Law in Alaska

Do I have a case if an ex-boss is giving me a less than favorable review when a potential employer calls for a reference? The company policy is to route these calls to HR. He has told two existing employers that it is something he found after I left. I have no idea what he is talking about and he gave me excellent reviews when I worked for him. Doesn't he have too disclose this to me before he releases the info to a potential employer? He has damaged by ability to obtain a management position as a result of this.

No, he is not obliged to tell you anything when asked about your work history, etc.

Do you know exactly what he said to the other person? Was what he said false and defamatory?
