Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

State of Florida Laws governing Mississippi divorce

Can a resident of Orange County, Florida file for a divorce; in which the original petition was filed by the other party on or about May 1996 in the State of Mississippi?

The person filing the original petition has decided they no longer want the divorce because God said it's not right... but if the other party will pay the person filing a certain amount of money they will grant the divorce; but prefers to just receive what Mississippi calls "seperate maintenance"?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Re: State of Florida Laws governing Mississippi divorce

Based upon your statement, there is no Miss. divorce. At best there was a divorce action pending, which has not reached final judgment. If that is so, you may proceed in Fl. for a divorce. I cannot comment on the laws of Miss, because I am not admitted to practice in that jurisdiction.
