Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Arizona

i was in a 7yr gay relationship -we just 2 months ago signed a 1 yr lease with both namees on the lease- 2 weeks ago she said she wanted to leave the relationship for another person- i said i think you should leave or keep your other girl out of this house- she left instead... now is that considered abondomment or does she still have to pay 1/2 of the rent since she is still on the lease?

It all depends on the terms of your lease. Thank being said, she may still be responsible for 1/2 of the rent because her name is on the lease; however, the lease probably allows the total amount of rent to be collected from either one of you separately. In other words, the landlord still has a right to all of the rent, and can get it from either one of you. Since you are still in the house, you are the most likely source and will be the one that has to leave if all the rent cannot be paid.

Your best bet to to find a housemate to share the rent and have your ex sign off her interest in the lease so that it can be transferred into the name of the new tenant. I would imagine the landlord would be more than happy to assist with this as they don't want to be chasing down rent from someone who is living elsewhere, and they don't want to go to the trouble and expense of evicting you.
