When you loan someone money and they fail to pay you back , what is the time limit on when you can file suit?

The general time limit on a contract that is not in writing is 3 years. For a contract in writing, it is generally 5 years.

There are circumstances that could change either one of those based on the specifics of your situation, but those are the general time frames.
