Legal Question in Disability Law in California

Legal landlord documentation requirements for hearing dog

I have a documented hearing impairment. 5 yrs ago Social Security sent me to their doctor who stated it is severe to profound, irreversible and probably progressive. I now live alone and just had a fantastic life changing visit from a hearing dog. I accepted him, but my building is ''no dogs'' My landlord says I can keep him if I provide a doctors note. My doc retired, and the social security doc won't write the note because he ''hasn't seen me in 5 years'' Note will cost around $1000!!!!! If I have iron clad documentation of my hearing impairment, can he require a doctor note, too?

Tell your landlord to go pound sand. Or I would be pleased to write him a letter on attorney letterhead.

A letter from an attorney should set your landlord straight...or a complaint to the California Fair Employment & Housing Administration. Or you could show your landlord the letter from the Social Security Administration notifying you of their determination that you are disabled.
