Legal Question in Business Law in California

Domestication (Breach of Contract)

Being sued by CA real estate consultant for services he performed in my state of NC - helping me find a location for my retail store. The business is about to go under and I do not have the 11K he is suing for. I have contacted a local attorney - more in regard to bankruptcy but want to answer the summons complaint. The summons states the contract was signed in CA (it was not) and the services were to be performed in CA(they were not). I have located the proper response forms and just want to get your thoughts on how to proceed. Thanks.

Re: Domestication (Breach of Contract)

You might want to contact an attorney local to LA to defend the case on, among other things, the grounds of lack of personal jurisdiction. If the case is in Southern California, please feel free to contact me. Remember you have but 30 days from the date the complaint was served on you to file a proper response, or a default judgment could be entered.
