Legal Question in Business Law in California

Sick Pay and Vacation Pay use for bonding with newborn

Hello,

I have 40 hours of what--name removed--company calls Sick Pay and 80 hours of vacation time at--name removed--disposal. I plan on taking a total of about 2-3 weeks off to spend with--name removed--wife and newborn when the baby comes.

--name removed--question is, what does the federal and California law say about how I can use--name removed--sick days for this purpose? I'd like to use about 2/3 of--name removed--available sick days and--name removed--vacation for the rest... is this allowed?

Thanks!

Look to your company handbook for this information as well as the company's actual history in similar situations.

Additionally, you may want to review the FMLA as you may qualify for leave under that Act as well.

More information about this is available on our firm's site at RulesofEmployment.com.
