Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

A friend of mine got into a car accident in 2004 & used my car that was not insured at the time, and now 10 years later the insurance company is trying to get money from me. I thought I was in the clear because I was not the one that was involved in the accident. Why after 10 years are they trying to come after me?

It sounds like it's the other driver's insurance company that is coming after you because you owned the vehicle. I assume that the other driver obtained a judgment against you and it's time to renew the judgment after 10 years. That probably reminded them that they should try to see if you can pay something. If the amount is substantial, you might bring information to an attorney to sort out. If there was no judgment against you, perhaps they're just trying to scare you into making a payment, even though the statute of limitation may have run (expired) a long time ago. These are things a lawyer could help you to sort out.
