Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

I was mailed a subpoena and did not show up for court. Now I have the local police dept calling me telling me I need to come pick it up or they are issuing me a bench warrant.....Is this how it works?

If you disregard a subpoena, you face potential jail time for contempt of court. You have to be served the subpoena for it to be effective, but I wouldn't suggest you 'hide' from this, as it will only make your situation worse in the end.
