Legal Question in Technology Law in California

Can I post photos of celebrities on the net on my blog? Can I manipulate a photo and post it on my blog. Its a celebrity look alike site I want to build. Can I post these photos and what are the legalities?

Photos taken by other people are copyrighted and you could get sued if you post them without permission. On the other hand, how does Perez Hilton get away with it?

If you took the photos yourself, you can do it. Otherwise, there is a technical copyright infringement, even if you edit the photos significantly. Whether the copyright holder would think it was worthwhile to locate and sue you is another question.
