Legal Question in Technology Law in California

I recently got a virus on my computer. The company that made the virus is the same company that wants to sell me the software to remove the virus. Can I sue?

There are some very good free anti-virus programs on the internet, including AVG, and inexpensive packages such as Norton Antivirus, and Computer Associates. All are available in stores elsewhere. Don't go back to the unreliable company. And, for heaven's sake, don't leave your computer exposed without any protection.

Why do you believe the virus was written by the author of the anti-virus software? That sounds very unlikely. You may have a case if it's true, but unless the company is well-established it will probably vanish before you could collect anything from it.

I suggest following Mr. Cohen's advice and getting another brand of anti-virus software. The major brands generally remove the known viruses quite well, though each may do so differently.
