Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

I've had a problem with credit card debt. I have never stiffed a creditor and have a good credit rating.

Some of the debt was due to my wife running up debts via a credit card which I ended up having to pay off.

My wife is again saying she's going to get a Visa credit card over my objections and assures me she will pay off the charges but I'm afraid I will be left with one more debt I'll have to pay off.

I'm retired now and have our only income as my pension and Social Security.

What can I do to prevent myself from being sucked in if my wife had trouble paying what she's charged?

Not much. As her husband, you are responsible for her debts in most situations. The only way to avoid responsibility for her debts is to immediately file for separation and then move for divorce.
