Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

hello, i have an exemption hearing on friday, for a garnishment order. is there any special documentation i should bring to this hearing. do i just bring all my bills in, or are there other documents that i should bring in that may help me get a lower amount, for the garnishment. i heard there where exemptions that i was aloud to take but im not sure what they are. can i get a list of all the things im aloud to claim, to lower this garnishment amount. because i really cant even afford 10%, and definitely not 25%. thank you.

Many courts post tentative rulings a day or two before the hearing. Check the court's website for tentative rulings. Often, the judge will state specifically what the court is interested in seeing. If there is no tentative ruling, bring all of your recent utility bills, pay advices (stubs), rent/mortgage statements or receipts, bank statements, credit card statements, child support receipts, etc. The more different kinds of documents you have with you, the more likely it is that you'll be prepared to address the court's concerns. Of course, you will have to explain why you can't pay the amount that the judgment creditor has garnished.
