Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

mail

I sent a payment on February 25th (dropped it off INSIDE a post office). This payment was due on March 3rd. They cashed it the 4th and applied a late payment. Is the law that it be postmarked by the 3rd? or can they literally just hold checks and apply late fees whenever???? how the heck would I prove that!!!!?????

Re: mail

With rent, payment is to be received by the due date. Send it certified, return receipt, or priority or express mail with tracking.
