In short, the deceased parent's estate is responsible to pay the bills/debt. How that is done depends on many factors. For instance, is the estate solvent or insolvent? Did the decedent leave a will or a trust?

I suggest you consult with a local probate attorney, like myself, to review the estate and how it should be handled. If you administer the estate incorrectly, it is possible that you could be held responsible to pay the bills.
