can someone admit to being responsible for crimes i am being charged for, resulting in me being released from jail?

No, not necessarily. There would also have to be evidence linking them to the crime, and the situation would have to be such that the evidence also cleared you. If you were still a participant, you would still face charges.

Mr. Roach is correct. It could so result, but be careful. I sense you have a plan to arrange for someone to admit to something to result in your release. The police and prosecutors may look upon such an admission with great skepticism.

The authorities would not have to believe the other person's claims. They would surely investigate, but you would only be released if the investigation either clears you or at least makes the prosecutors believe they can't win their case. Neither of those things is likely, unless you're really innocent and the other person is really guilty.

Not only is it possible that you are not released but the other person might be arrested and both of you may be charged with the crime .
