Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

on my application for a school secretary it ask if I have ever been convicted of a crime yes or no? I had a dui and petty theft about 12 years ago they were expunged. How to I answer?

On many private company applications you may say 'no', but are required to say 'yes' and explain on any applications for government jobs, licensing, schools, banking, etc, and must do so because your DOJ background check [rap sheet] will show them the full history anyway. Most of those applications will explicitly say you must do so, don't disregard that warning, as lying/withholding will result in job denial or loss.
