Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

When I broke up with my boyfriend & started out the door he suddenly punched himself in the face 3 times hard & told me that if I left him then he would call the Police & have me arrested for domestic violence. I left & he called the Police & had a report taken falsely accusing me of hitting him & so now the Police are looking to arrest me for domestic violence. I did not hit him...I merely broke up with him & left. What should I do? I do not want to go to jail. Please advice!

Rule 1. If the police contact you do not talk to them. Tell them that you want a lawyer and you will not answer any questions without a lawyer present. (FYI: No. respectable lawyer will let you talk to the police under any conditions.)

Rule 2. If the police ask you for permission to search your clothing, home. Pr vehicle refuse to give them permission. If they search you anyway there is not much you can do about it.

Rule 3. Get yourself an experienced criminal defense attorney immediately.

There may be things that you and your attorney can do to avoid the arrest. There may be a way to get information to the police so that they get your side without a direct statement from you, but unfortunately this won't be a do it yourself project.

You need a good criminal defense attorney. I'd strongly suggest you find someone who focuses on criminal law and who routinely practices in the court where this case will be heard.

Because they are actively looking for you, talk to a couple of attorneys today to protect yourself.
