Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My husband has been arrested for drug possession of a controlled substance (apprx 2 grams of meth) w/ a glass pipe. We cannot afford a fancy defense lawyer. What options do I have because he desperately needs a good criminal defense lawyer. He is our family's main source of income. He has worked hard and has stayed out of trouble for years now. He is facing potentially 3-5 yrs in prison. We cannot bear the thought of this happening. The solution might be having a decent lawyer that would work with us on a payment plan or pro bono perhaps. A public defender is a certain max prison term, this I am sure. Please help me to look at our options. I am so scared and don't know where to turn. Thank you

You can get a good lawyer who isn't fancy. Call around your area for a law firm with experience and credentials. If you desire, call my office at 661-267-1313 and we can go over the facts and give you direction.

If he has a lot of priors he is looking at prison time. If this is a first time offense, the chances are good that he can get treatment instead of jail time.

Public defenders generally ARE the only 'pro bono' criminal attorneys. That is their job, paid for with our tax dollars.
