I'm a Former Deputy District Attorney and a Former Judge Pro Tem and have been handling criminal cases for 30 years, but you have given me no information to know what your son's case is about or where it's being heard. You can call my office or many other criminal defense experts and, over the phone, for FREE, get some direction for your son. Call my office at 661-267-1313 and I will be more than happy to answer you questions. David Wallin

First - don't fall for the hard sell.

You don't indicate what your son is charged with, why you're having cold feet about the lawyer you've already engaged and what you're looking for.

This isn't something to rush into. Search attorneys. Look at their websites, reviews and reviews from former clients in any way you can. Google them.

Narrow your choices down to the top three and meet with them. You can tell so much by sitting in the same room with a person and looking them in the face as you talk. Not over the computer, not over the phone, but in person.

How did they respond to you? Is it a marketing pitch? Is it a true concern for the facts of the case, any possible defenses and to get to know what the situation is all about? Having research the attorney, I assume you will learn more about the charges your son faces. During door in person consultations, that is the time to discuss those types of cases, the strategy, issues, and overall scope of what this case is about.

An attorney who cannot or will not answer your questions about a possible plan of attack is concerning. I understand that that attorney will not know all the details and know exactly which way the case is headed, but what are some overall strategies that they would employ?

If you have already retained an attorney but are having cold feet, perhaps it is time for another - or a conversation with the one you already have to discuss the issues and seek reassurances.

Good luck.

Look for an attorney who does only criminal law and is familiar with the court in question, experiance is the most important thing. Meet him in person and have your questions ready. If the attorney is knowledgeable and answers your questions to your satisfaction this may be the lawyer for you.
