To begin the process, you have to file a notice of appeal before time runs out. (If you had a lawyer in the trial court, she should be happy to do this for you.) But that's the easy part. There's a lot more to it.

You should have a lawyer represent you in your appeal. If you can't afford one, the court will appoint one for you at public expense. You should start the process ASAP, since there may not be much time left.
