Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I have a few petty theft charges in past . i have not been in any trouble for five years or so. I just finished my felony five year probation for petty theft. But recently pickrd up another one. Is it possible to just get probation?

Are you asking whether you're going to prison? Unless you have certain convictions in your past, the law now is that any petty theft is a misdemeanor.

Are you asking if you can get "just probation" and no jail time? Yes, it's possible, but this is now your _____th theft charge. You said you had a few PLUS just finished five years probation for the same thing and are now accused of theft again. Jail time seems quite likely.

You need a good criminal defense attorney. I'd strongly suggest you find someone who focuses on criminal law and who routinely practices in the court where this case will be heard.
