Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Hi yes my roomate accidentally discharged his firearm in his room and the police showed up and searched my room and found my weapon with a 16 round magazine could i get charged with a crime I am the legal owner of the firearm and have no criminal record and i have not been charged with anything or contacted by the police but i want to go and pick up my weapon

Unless you were the owner of the magazine before the ban in 2000 or there is another exception, by possessing the high capacity magazines, you're in violation.
