Legal Question in DUI Law in California

Could anyone provide advice? Three weeks ago I drank too much and can't recall events that happened while driving home. I woke up the next day with a strong feeling something really horrible happened, like I was involved in a hit run with a pedestrian. I feel I remember talking to someone and giving my name but then leaving and being chased. I am going crazy thinking that I may have seriously injured someone and fled. And I think it may have even been the police that I evaded. Isn't there anything I can do to find out if anything happened? I was going to go to the police station but was told by a lawyer not to because it would incriminate myself. And I hired a lawyer to investigate the matter but it seems like he really can't do anything. I've even contemplated suicide because of this-worrying about it is driving me mad. I just wish I could find out for sure if something happened so I can either accept it or feel a sense of relief that it's only in my head. I heard that in California there is 3 year stat. Of limitations for felonies-I don't think I can survive this long wondering if I hurt someone. Any advice? It's strange because I'm usually so cautious about drinking and driving - I hate that this has happened and feel my life is over.

Hire an attorney that has handled this sort of situation before. There are means to find out if something happened, and part of that is deciding whether to take responsibility for your actions. No lay person or attorney can tell you the value of peace of mind.

Call me if you would like to discuss this.
