school attendance

a mother of an illegal immigrant is keeping her 13 year old daughter home from school to baby sit her siblings so the mother can work to earn money to feed her children. What do you do? Does the mother have the right to keep her daughter home?

Hello!

Thank you for your concern. The child is obligated to attend school. Period. The mother is "abusing" the child under current California law. The child could be taken from the mother and even be put into foster care.

I assume that this is not a one or two days here and there, but a regular never go to school.

You can contact the School, police and or other agencies if you are so inclined. REMEMBER that whatever you do this will seriously impact the other family. You need to be comfortable with whatever result will arise.
