Legal Question in Family Law in California

Name change

If I hyphenate my name after marriage, can I legally use one last name or the other without always using both last names? For example, if I want to apply for a business license could I just use one of the names or do I have to apply under both names?

Thank you.

Re: Name change

The law is Cal is that you can use any name, so long as it is not for the purpose of fraud. Based on this general principle it would seem that what you propose would be acceptable.
