Legal Question in Family Law in California

Who decides How the Money is Spent?

My husband and I seem to be divorcing over money. He tells me what I have to do with my social security/disability check as I have bi-polar disorder (take meds/see docs religiously), and he controls the rest of the income (''his''). We have two girls, mine from prev. He keeps telling me to ''GET A JOB!!!'' I feel very controlled. He always gets to decide how the money is spent, yet I am expected to be the full-time homemaker as if that is not work. Are there any laws regarding his behaviour towards me?

Re: Who decides How the Money is Spent?

I have a lot of experience with bi-polar individuals. If you know you're bi-polar, are you taking your medication responsibly and is it really helping you? How are you certain that you can be a good judge of whether it is working well? In many relationships, to control money you have to make money. Can your house survive without you there doing homemaker things? Won't someone start being responsible and helping to get that cleaning, etc. done when you have a job? If you feel controlled, then it sounds like you are either not taking your medication, it isn't working or your sensing your desire to cut loose. I may be wrong; I don't even know you. But what you write reminds me of a lot of people I have watched cause great harm to their family relationships because they are out of touch with reality or out of balance with life, if you can see what I mean.

If you don't trust your spouse and you don't appear to trust your kids' opinions in this, then seek an unbiased, really unbiased third party.
