Legal Question in Family Law in California

I am the non-custodial parent of my daughter living in California. Her mother just passed away, who was married to an active duty airman in Missouri. We have never had a formal court agreement, and I am concerned with a custody battle with possibly my daughters step father or older sister (from her mother's previous relationship). What are my options?
