Legal Question in Family Law in California

What are my options on leaving a relationship in which we are not married but have a year old son together and house , cannot handle the yelling in front of my son and daughter from a previous marriage , the verbal abuse towards my daughter at times , threats to take son away , and to fight in court since his parents have the financial means , bottom line want out without making it difficult for kids thanks

Once you have a child together it is pretty much the same as a divorce. There is no community property, but that can sometimes actually make it MORE complicated to sort out who gets what. As far as your son is concerned, the law makes no distinction whatsoever between what happens if you were married when he was born or not - it's the same as a divorce as far as options, obligations, law and issues.
